To fully understand how your pet’s heart is working, your veterinarian may need to combine the results of an ECG with those of blood tests, x-rays, and perhaps cardiac ultrasounds. ECG procedures are rapid, painless, and non-invasive. It only takes a few moments.

The heart gets electrical impulses from the body, which promotes normal cardiac rhythm and pace. An electrocardiograph can detect and record electrical changes caused by a heartbeat. Your veterinarian can use this information to determine your pet’s heart rhythm and rate. Electrocardiography is the technique of measuring heart rate and rhythm using electrocardiograph equipment, with the final result being an electrocardiogram (ECG).
